The Dawn chorus

Arose at 4am this morning to go on a guided walk around Kinnoull hill with my parents. The walk was organised at this unsocialable hour so that everyone could listen to dawn chorus; I know it sounds crazy but it was actually quite amazing!

I really have no idea what causes the birds to sing so enthusiastically as the dawn breaks; it's almost spiritual, as though they are giving thanks for the new day. Does anyone else have any theories on the matter?

The whole endeavour was my dad's idea; he thought it would be a good way to kick start my birthday...sometimes I wish I had normal parents; not the tree hugging, retired hippies that I live with, however, if I'm honest, I secretly enjoy their naturalist tendencies...

...I certainly did this morning anyway, since it was a great experience watching the day break; it was all blue skies, fresh rays and chirpiness ;0)

Hello,
no i don't have any theories as to why the birds sing- but I do quite like waking up to it! (except for this one particular bird that used to squawk really unpleasantly outside my window, but it's gone now, so it's all good!!) : )
