Hens weekend
My book group has been a constant source of joy to me; I reckon that everyone should join a book group! :0) Veronica, one of the original book group girls is getting married next month and I was invited to her hens weekend in Hamner springs, which was a great laugh! It was a very European affair since the "bride to be" is from Sweden and most of her close friends are German.
The eight of us headed north to Hamner springs, famous for it's hot pools and stayed in a lovely wee house that had a stove fire, which turned out to be a much welcomed feature since the kiwi summer has not yet kicked in and it was rather chilly!
We dressed Veronica up in hideous make-up and a veil and headed over to the hot pools. Everywhere we went all eyes were on Veronica and her veil! Twas very amusing so twas.
Back at the house there was a seemingly endless supply of chocolate, dark, light, milky, nutty, white; you name it we had it! We also had a plentiful supply of good wine and interesting nibbles to keep us company throughout the night. Girlie chats are something else; guys just wouldn't understand! We discussed all sorts of things including the differences in our cultures and our dreams and fears, it was quite an education.
I was really surprised to hear how fearful the girls were of all sorts of things. I must admit I found it quite hard to relate to since I'm not really a fearful person; I’m not afraid of the dark or spiders or the supernatural or of being alone at home or not having a partner; I do sometimes harbour a fear of failing although the Lord has really been helping me to overcome that lately . Of course in extreme life threatening circumstances I'm sure I would be as anxious as the next person, but in day to day life I've found that knowing Christ has obliterated most of my fears, even the fear of death.
"The is no fear in perfect love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love" 1 John 4;18
