The wild west

A bit like Scotand, the west coast in the South island is very green and beautiful but there is a reason for this- it rains, a lot!

Over labour weekend a couple of my flat mates, a friend from Navs and I went for a wee road trip to the west coast, which was a bit of an adventure and we had a good time despite the rain. We went to a place called Punakaiki, which has these incredible rocks that look like piles and piles of pancakes all lying on top of each other, they are pretty funky and there are also loads of blow holes where the sea water pushes through the spaces and shoots up fountains of sea spray making it all very interactive!

On the way home we had a wee soak in the hot pools and even dared to try out the Japanese baths at Maruia springs; very relaxing indeed and a good end to our weekend away.
