Exploring the geothermic activity
Still battling away with illness, which is a little frustrating, however I'm trying not to let it ruin my trip. Woke up ridiculously early this morning with a sore throat so I got up and did a bit of reading and then decided there was not much point in going back to bed so I headed down to the lake and had a good time journalling and connecting with God.
We found the sun that's for sure! Gregor and I toyed with the idea of doing a sky jump over Lake Taupo since it was a perfect day for it but finances are a bit tight for me and although jumping out of a plane would have been HEAPS of fun I didn't feel able to throw my money away like that. Then an evil bank machine ate my bank card and I couldn't even access the money that I did have! Arrrrhhh!
After breakfast on our balcony we decided to get out and about and enjoy the day. We stopped off at Huka falls, which were dazzling in the spring sun before walking around the Craters of the Moon thermal area, 5 km's out of Taupo. There was something eerie about the bubbling mud pools and steaming vents that sent a shiver up my spine; it may have had something to do with the fact that the man at the entrance had warned us to stay on the path to ensure that we didn't end up like the young person in Rotorua who died in a mud pool yesterday...
After oohing and ahhing at all the geothermic activity we left Taupo and headed to Rotorua. The smell hits you as you approach the town, a pungent eggy stench caused by the sulphur- hmmm, lovely!
I didn't last the night and after a pizza hut dinner I hit the sack while Nicki and Gregor went to visit Nicki's uncle.
