Me no "meno"

Yesterday I gave a wee talk to the Navs group based on John 15 where Jesus compares himself and his disciples to a vine and it’s branches urging them to “remain in him” if they want to bear fruit, in the same way that the branches of a vine must remain attatched to the vine if they are to produce grapes.

I discovered that the greek word for remain is “meno” and it means to rest, settle down or abide, so we are told to rest in Christ. Evidently living fruitful lives that honour God is not about striving and trying to please God by doing "good works", on the contrary, it seems to be much more about resting and trusting in Him…why is it that whenever you give a talk you then find yourself struggling with the very thing you've been talking to others about? Arhh!

It's kinda humbling and slightly ironic too but I guess learning not to strive and just to trust God is going to be a life long venture for me. I am keen to crack this "meno" thing though, it must be important since Christ does mention it 11 times throughout this passage. For me the key to "meno" is me saying "no!" to things that are not my priorities, not my strong point I must confess.
