The Beavon's bay

Lynton, Philippa and I left Hamner springs after breakfast on Monday morning and started our wee road trip up the east coast towards the Marlborough sounds where the Beavon's have their bay.

We stopped off in Kiakoura for lunch and heeding my dad's words of wisdom; to always try out the local produce; I opted for the sea food chowder since Kiakoura is famous for it's cray fish. Highly recommended by me, DE-licious!

After lunch we stopped off to look at the seal colonies just outside Kiakoura and watched the seals lazing around on the rocks; the sea was really rough and we noticed a few cubs playing around in the waves, they were actually getting tossed about quite vigorously, however they appeared to be unperturbed by this and seemed to quite enjoy the whole experience!

It was a lovely day so we were happy just to meander up the road. We also stopped off for a coffee at a funky cafe just outside Kiakoura called The Store, which has been done out like a kind of warehouse with barrels of fresh produce, dried flowers and a nautical feel.

We eventually arrived into the Beavon's bay later on that evening, conveniently just in time for dinner! It was still light and I was able to see how idyllic it was before it got dark. The bay is fairly isolated and surrounded by native bush, very New Zealand; very beautiful.
