Ben Vorlich

Woke up this morning and a combination of excitement about being back in bonny Scotland and delight that the sun was shining inspired me to attempt to climb Ben Vorlich!

I know the Scottish mountains can be unpredictable, but I was still surprised by the dramatic change in weather...just as I made it onto the ridge and could see the summit I was enveloped in a shrowd of white! I had all my snow gear with me but I was not quite sure how to get down off the mountain since my way up had been rather make shift without a map etc. Hmm, I concluded that it was time for some divine intervention! After placing my request for assistance, I came across fresh footprints of a man and his dog; I never did meet that man and his four legged friend, but their footprints led me to three mountaineers, each with their own GPS sytem and all kitted out with top notch gear; the leader of the pack was an army-trained mountain rescuer! Thankfully they were willing to let me join them...so I was saved by three Englishmen!

After the drama of getting through the snow storm things brightened up and I made friends with some of the locals on the way down...I think they were as bemused by the sudden whiteout as we were!.
