AMPS

And so to work...the real reason I've popped down to the capital- the AMPS course.

AMPS stands for Assessement of Motor and Process Skills and basically it involves the therapist watching their client carry out a functional task (of the appropriate challenge) and marking them on their performance...sounds straight forward but it's taking a wee while for me to get my head around it.

So far this is what I've picked up; if you chat to me whilst making thick and stodgy porridge and forget to put the milk back in the fridge you would only get a "2" for attention (distracted from task) a "2" for terminates (not enough water in your porridge), a "2" for restores (didn't put milk back in fridge) and a "2" for heeds (your end product was slightly different from what was required)...the fact that you like your porridge thick and stodgy and enjoyed our wee chat is of absolutely no consequence...the therapist then prints out a graph that tells you whether or not you are able to live at home by yourself!

So beware the next time your making your tea when I'm over at your place...I could secretly be sussing you out on many different levels! ;~)
