Sampling Cullin Skink in Fanny Trollopes!

This is the first thing I took Marie to do in Glasgow!

Now if you're not fae Scotland you may be wondering what I'm talking about and even if you are from these parts, you may still want a bit more of an explanation! Well, although this activity sounds rather unsavoury, I can assure you it is all above board...very savoury indeed, in fact you could take your granny to do it and she'd probably love you for it!..."cullen skink" is a scottish soup made of smoked haddock, potatoes and onions and "Fanny Trollopes" is the rather colourful name of the Bistro bar where we went to sample this local delight!

Apparently the soup has been named after the town of Cullen, situated in Morayshire, on the east coast of Scotland. The word "cullen" is thought to derive from the Gaelic word for "essence" and in essence; this soup is delicious scottish fare and worthy of your attention!

As a few of you will know, I've been wanting to check out Fanny Trollopes for ages now, so it was great to finally get there with Marie. It proved to be just what we were after (aside from the intense monologue about Israel and Palestine that the owner subjected us to; in spite of all of our subtle and progressively less subtle social cues, he blatantly refused to step down off his soap box...even the waitresses felt sorry for us!).

The service was top notch and we were both impressed by the quirky surroundings and the quality of the food; it's always good to be eating local produce. I would recommend a visit but be warned, if you choose to engage the Egyptian/Palestinian owner in conversation, you might be there for longer than you'd anticipated!!
