Landscape Architect tour of the Westend!
I had the priviledge of being introduced to the landscapers favourite haunts in the Westend of Glasgow and it was quite an education! We started off in "The Wee pub" on Ashton Lane, which lived up to its name and we were lucky to get a pew...few!
Then onto, Brel, apparenly a bit of a favourite. I always have a laugh when I'm there, so I guess it's leaving a good impression on me too. I also love that you can sit outside on the grass in the summer...well on those days when the summer is actually behaving like a summer!
After that we went off to Little Italy, where you get superbe discounts on pizzas and coffee with SnapFax, which was just the ticket! -for future reference, the coffee comes highly recommended!
Then a stroll further down Byres road took us to Club500, not a place that the boys usually frequent. It looked fairly pretentious from the outside but was actually quite relaxed with plenty of space. I was alerted to the fantastic "aspect" this pub enjoys looking up Byres road (can you tell I was in the company of landscapers?!).
Finally we popped around the corner to The Lismore, named after an island off the west coast of Scotland. It's a lovely, authentic, wee pub with impressive stained glass windows and a mixed crowd of folk. It has a very Scottish feel, since there are various tributes to Scottish history around the place.
The guys were telling me that the people responsible for making poor, innocent Scots leave their homes in Highland Clearances have been named and their names inscribed on the urinal in the mens toilet with a sign "please pay your respects"! They were keen to know if there was an equivalent in the ladies loos, but I explained that us ladies express our disapproval of such things in much subtler ways!!
