Glasgow Festival of Light 2005
Marcus told me about this incredible festival which was on in the city centre. There were various installation pieces on display for all to see and it was completely free!
"Trapped" was quite a dramatic piece designed by an artist called Dave Bryant in collaboration with Graphical House. According to the programme it was created to "explore the secrets of another world within a city" and I reckon it goes a long way to achieving this by somehow managing to animate the entire building from within. Silhouettes travelled across the windows, which initially I found quite sinister but they unfolded into beautiful sequences and images, mesmorising.
This piece was situated right in the centre of Merchant City and incorporated live music, various lighting effects, dance and other types of motion such as cycling, walking and running, producing this interactive performance piece that was so intriguing I went to see it a second time! In a one word, I'd say it was dynamic!
This piece was designed by an artist called Simon Corder and he "changes the normal utilitarian effect of massed fluorescent tubes to create an organic form that grows up the walls of the building." Personally it reminded me of light savers from starwars, a sight to behold!
