Christmas in the Park?

I must admit I'm finding the whole Christmas in the sun quite baffling! I went to this big celebration that they have here in Christchurch that included quasi-famous people singing "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas" and other carol's....a tad different from the carol services in Scotland and a bit of a culture shock really; apparently 100,000 show up to this event; I tried counting them all but lost my place!
