Tramping when you're hypoglycaemic!
This weekend I went tramping with a guy I know from Navs called Lindsay Blakie and his friend Zane; it was meant to be an easy tramp and it probably would have been had I had more than four hours sleep the night before and had I not decided to jump into the river we were crossing, only to discover (as we climbed out of the canyon) that it was snowing further up the mountain... oops! Not the best situation to find yourself in if you are tired, wet and hypoglycaemic! With a bit of encouragement from the guys and some sugar, I managed to make it into the hut; however, I could not lift a finger to help with setting up the tents or making the dinner... I was a right girl and just sat beside the fire in the hut and dried off my hair and feet instead! The guys dutifully put up my tent and brought me my dinner and dessert to boot, they were a massive Godsend that night let me tell you!
The following day we went to have a look at some of the nearby waterfalls before spending about four hours in the sauna that has been built by some ingenious Swedish student; that was much more relaxing let me tell you! That night we slept in the hut, which was heaps warmer, the weather is meant to be getting better and some days there is evidence but of course you cannot guarantee what's going on in the mountains!
