In the Glen below the Ben
My good friend (Dr David Bradley, aka "Brads") and I met up with Ian, one of the medical students on his ward and his fiance Lucy for a bite to eat yesterday afternoon in Fort William, when we suddenly found ourselves immersed in this incredibly scottish scene...we were right at the bottom of Ben Nevis (the tallest mountain in Scotland; 1,343m/ 4,406 ft high...not very high by kiwi standards I know, but don't mock it until you've climbed it!) in this old barn, which has been converted into a bar/restaurant and we sat eating scampi and chips next to a roaring fire, watching the snow falling sporadically in the valley, whilst listening to Enya and other celtic music...it was the ultimate scottish experience! We all felt as though we should have been in an advert for the Scottish Tourist Board or something!
I'd never been to Fort William before and I so I hadn't appreciated just how remote and stunningly beautiful the surrounding countryside is in this area and it was great to be experiencing this so soon after getting back, helps ease the pain of being away from the kiwi summer.
Och aye, Scotland's nae sae bad after all ;0)
