California dreaming

It's been quite some time since I've written anything on my blog because life has simply been too hectic for blogging! However I wanted to let you all know I've touched down in the U S of A!

Leaving New Zealand for good was very hard for me and yes, a few tears were shed, although the anticipation of a new adventure in the states has helped to cushion the blow.

In true Ayley-style, I did have a bit of an incident at the airport in LA, since immigration detained me in their office because I didn't know the address where I was staying, I explained that I was being met at the airport but apparently this was of no consequence. Thankfully I was able to get the Stirlings address in St. Louis off my ibook and the immigration officers were satisfied with that and finally let me out onto the streets of LA! I must have been the last person to leave departures and the only person on my flight not to have their finger prints taken; perhaps they figured that someone as disorganised as me posed no real threat to there country's security!

I was relieved to see the face of my friend Austin waiting for me and we drove off down the eight-laned freeway to his house. LA is just as I'd imagined it to be with lots of traffic, large streets lined with palm trees and American franchises everywhere.

After some authentic America food (hamburger, chips and a milk shake!)I went with Austin to one of his geology lectures at the "University of California", which was a bit of a laugh, I learnt a thing or too about waves and the surf!

After a wee nap I had a shower before celebrating the chinese New Year with an abundance of chinese food and a heap of Austin's friends, it was great fun!

Time for bed now, night night from California!
